This town is named for its life-size white idol of Bhagawan Sankeshwar Parshwanatha in the Padmasana posture. The temple is believed to date from the 12th century but was destroyed during Muslim invasions of the area. The temple was rebuilt in the 18th century.
This temple to Bahucharaji, one of the many goddesses of the Hindu pantheon, is an important place of pilgrimage often considered one of the 52 shaktipiths of the mother goddess cult. The temple is revered by the eunuchs.
